If you’re looking for a fun, simple craft for your kids to make this summer or fall, try making this DIY paper sunflower. It’s perfect for kids of all ages and is sure to keep them busy and entertained for hours.
Start by preparing the materials for your paper sunflower. You will need card stock and a sheet of yellow tissue paper. You will also need yellow glitter glue and black glitter glue (if you don’t have the glue, black craft paint dots will work too).
Cut the tissue paper into small squares. Set the squares aside.
Next, cut out the petals for your sunflower from the yellow cardstock paper. You will need to cut out several petal shapes from the lighter yellow and several from the darker yellow.
Take the darker petals and fold them in concertina style to make pleats like shown in pic 1. Stick these folded pieces together by applying glue in between the zig-zag folds (see the dotted V line on each pleat). Continue with the other two pleats from the heavier yellow.
Repeat this process until you have a large group of petals made from the darker yellow. Once you have your petals shaped and attached, place them around the center of your flower, filling in between them as you go.
Then, cut out a brown circular piece of paper that will fit in the center of your flower and glue it down. If you want, you can also glue down some green leaves that you cut out from the template earlier.
Once the petals are glued down, you can glue on the stem of your flower to complete your DIY paper sunflower. You can also add pom poms or buttons to the center of your flower to make it more interesting.
To finish your paper sunflower, you can also use a black marker to draw on sunflower seeds on the center of the flower. This will make your flower look a little more finished and will help the sunflower stand out from the rest of the flowers in your room.
